Demographic forecast: how the ratio of men and women in Ukraine will change after the war
According to the data from the demographer and deputy director of the Institute of Demography and Social Studies of the NAS of Ukraine, Oleksandr Gladun, in 2024, a nearly equal ratio of men and women is expected in Ukraine.
Researchers have built several scenarios for the events of 2024, depending on the end of the war.
According to the optimistic forecast, at the beginning of 2025, the ratio will be almost 1:1, or women will slightly outnumber men. The medium forecast predicts that there will be 51% women and 49% men. The pessimistic forecast suggests similar figures. It is important to note that if there is a terrible error in counting the population of Ukraine, up to a million people, then the ratio of men and women will be even more significant. It all depends on the intensity of the hostilities, which cannot be predicted,' he explained.
The demographer also noted that this ratio is associated with the departure of women from Ukraine, while predominantly men die on the front lines.
We remind you that Ukrainians were shown the terrible difference between mortality and birth rates.
