Almost half of foreign students in Poland are Ukrainians – statistics.

More than 45% of foreign students in Polish universities are citizens of Ukraine
According to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Poland, by the end of the 2023-2024 academic year, over 102.7 thousand students from other countries were studying at Polish higher education institutions. Among them, about 45.5 thousand (45%) are citizens of Ukraine. This information was provided in response to a request from the Ukrainian agency "Ukrinform".
Private higher education institutions have become popular among Ukrainian students, particularly, last year 19.9 thousand Ukrainian students enrolled in Polish universities. In total, 11.9 thousand of them studied in private universities, 7.8 thousand in state ones, and 0.2 thousand in church educational institutions.
According to Polish legislation, Ukrainian citizens have the opportunity to receive free higher education in public Polish universities if they study full-Time and in Polish due to Russian aggression. Additionally, Ukrainian students are entitled to a social scholarship and a study loan. Various types of financial aid are also provided, such as rector's scholarships, grants for people with disabilities.
In the last 4 years, distance learning has become a major burden for Ukrainian students and schoolchildren. This was stated by former Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Liliya Hrynevych. She noted that students experience educational losses that accumulate over time and may lead to a loss of interest in learning.
There is also concern about the increasing number of people wishing to go abroad for distance learning. Volodymyr Strashko, head of one of the commercial schools offering distance learning services, reported an increase in inquiries from parents who want to transfer education abroad. This indicates that Ukrainians consider the war prolonged and are trying to take their children out of the country.
