Explosion of a homemade device in Rivne
On March 20, 2025, a tragic event occurred in Rivne – the explosion of a homemade explosive device being transported in a car near one of the shopping and entertainment centers. The incident happened around 1:40 PM on Kyivska Street, reported the National Police of Ukraine.
According to law enforcement, the driver and passenger of the vehicle were injured as a result of the explosion. Both victims were hospitalized. The police classified this incident as a terrorist act.
A forensic investigative group from the National Police and the Security Service of Ukraine was working at the scene. Police explosives experts conducted a check of the area to identify possible additional threats.
SSU investigators launched a pre-trial investigation under Article 258 (terrorist act) and Article 263 (illegal handling of weapons, military ammunition, or explosive substances) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
'Comprehensive measures are currently being taken to clarify all the circumstances of the explosion and the persons involved in it,' reported the National Police.
It is worth noting that this is not the first similar incident in Ukraine recently. On March 11, explosions also occurred near the railway station in Ivano-Frankivsk. At that Time, two explosions occurred near apartment buildings on Pryvokzalna Street, which led to a fire on the roof of a residential building. A minor was killed, and three other people were injured, one of whom lost both legs.
